Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for the Civil Defence, shared with Al Mayadeen a heartbreaking panorama of the humanitarian crisis affecting displaced people in this region, where extreme cold has become a new threat.

In his statement, Basal emphasized that many citizens who previously died from bombings and food shortages are now losing their lives due to low temperatures. “Seven children have died of cold so far,” he lamented, underlining the vulnerability of the child population amidst the conflict.

The situation is even more complicated for those who have been forced to leave their homes and take refuge in displaced persons camps.

Basal stated that these spaces are overcrowded and that the tents are flooded, making living conditions even more difficult. “Hundreds of appeals have reached our teams to help the internally displaced, but we do not have the resources to assist them,” he added, reflecting the lack of humanitarian support at a critical time.

Since the start of the Israeli aggression on October 7, 2023, the number of victims has reached alarming figures, with more than 45,541 martyrs and over 108,338 wounded.

This desperate situation highlights the urgent need for international attention and humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian population in Gaza.
